Who writes this stuff?

My photo
Amsterdam, Netherlands
I've recently moved to Amsterdam from London and wanted to start blogging on the highs and the lows, and everything else in-between. It's also a bit of ranting and raving and a load of blah blah blah.

Cycling Sunday: Amsterdam to Marken

Sunday was glorious weather, and about 28 degrees (apparantly) so I cycled with Tom, my partner around the North of Holland by the water. It's so great to get out and about, and to see the rest of the country, I think this may be in the planing for the next holiday! On this route there's a ferry ride across a small stretch of water in Holysloot. Beware though, this is only in operation in the summer months. There's also a lighthouse at Marken where there's also a small stretch of beach for swimming. Really nice in the summer.

Details of roughly where I cycled are on this map, although to be more precise it's easier to show it on a cycle map for The Netherlands.

Just wanted to add...

Yes, I know Wiktionary already does something similar, but not quite. It's often wrong, or not there at all, most teachers don't recommend relying on it actually. Sorry to say. Although it is handy for quick one word translations. What I mean to do, is build a thesaurus, and takes a basic word and brings back a list of other suitable words you could also use, aimed at people like me who are learning Dutch.

NEW! Dutch wordbase

Today, like a good girl, I've been doing my Dutch huiswerk. As usual I can't concentrate and get easily distracted by new ideas. I was trying to write sentences to practice the adjective subsentence/de bijvoegelijke bijzin. Combining 2 sentences basically. I'm sick of using the same kind of adjectives. Leuke, goed, prima, prachtig etc. So I've started a collection of words and then the synonyms to broaden my vocabulary. So the idea is to look up the English word, and then you get a list of Dutch words that could be useful, meaning more or less the same thing. I need to find a solution on how to publish this next. Any database geniuses out there...?

1st post

Welcome!
I have to admit to having jumped on the blogs bandwagon a little bit late; I'm actually a blogging virgin. So why I've never started a blog, I'm not really sure, but maybe it also seems a desperate attempt at communicating with the outside world. In some form or another.

It's also maybe borne out of my confusion with the web nowadays. There's so much information, and so much that I find that escapes me. I'm not sure if it's laziness, or I'm simply confronted with too many options. We have so many tools now to capture and publish the things we find online from browser bookmarks through to linking to it on Facebook. Not to mention shared bookmarks such as Delicious for example. This is only for favorite web pages, what about all the rest?

It extends beyond simply making a list of web pages now, and call me crazy, but I'd really like one place that I can access from any computer that summarizes everything, and in the most personal way possible.

Ok, so this all sounds very general doesn't it, but bear with me here, my next project is going to be exploring all the options we have for collecting our online life and recording it. What do we do with this content overload and ever-growing dispersion of data.
